It all began in 1988, when a small group of Christian volunteers travelled to Uganda to help displaced people return to their devastated communities. A year later, Medair was officially registered as an NGO. Since then, Medair has provided emergency relief to more than 50 million people in 43 crisis areas. Our motivation 35 years ago remains the same today: the belief that every life matters. Whether someone lives should not depend on where they live. In 1988, a small group of Christian volunteers travelled to Ouganda to help populations displaced by the conflicts that had taken their lives. For a period of one year, Medair was registered as a Swiss non-governmental organisation. Since then, Medair has provided aid to more than 50 million people in 43 countries affected by crises. What motivated the creation of the NGO at the time still motivates our volunteers today: the conviction that every human life is precious, no matter where it is located in the world.
